I dont have an iPad, 1 or 2 so im afraid that i cant testify to having problems with the game client on either of these devices.
If you are having problems with the game client, you should open a ticket with support and they should be able to assist you. How to do that is included in my signature.
There are multiple methods to restart or reinstall the game client and given that your account is linked to the device you wont lose any progress within your cities. Before you try to reinstall the game, make sure that you link your account to an email address so that you can recover your account should anything go wrong. You can do this in the settings, which can be found by clicking the cog in the upper right corner of the screen, in the help menu.
Portal > Help > Cog
Once you do this, you can delete and reinstall the game client and hopefully that will rectify any crash problems that you have been experiencing.
