2 choices defend or hide :) move troops out of city to avoid attack but they may smash or ate your town or stay and defend :)

I know this may sound silly but if someone is on their way to attack you what's the best way to defend , I guess you can't go out to meet their army .do you just sit tight and hope I am not sure, sorry if I'm being dumb I'm a noob
