I always imagined it as my troops are partying as they are pillaging the empty village. They are partaking of the mead left behind and a few end up falling off the walls and dieing.

Thank you for the info. But wow what a stupid setup that is. I can just picture my troops, raiding an armyless town, and runinng dace first into their wall over and over again until they die,

You are loosing troops due to most of the barbarian cities have there walls built up. If you have scouts send them to see what level the walls are or send rams to nock the walls down down.

Why am I losing some of my army when I raid a barbarian city? I'm still under beginners protection, so I can only raid the NPC towns. Lately I send in my troops and when the report comes back it says ive lost a couple people... But the NPC city had no army at all. I get a win, buy zero kills, yet somehow lose people. What am I missing?
