It might be little hard in the beginning, but join a guild and ask them for help, they'll help you for sure :)

Farming isn't a waste of time. First send zerks to clear then lancers or knights to pick it up if you keep farming you'll make up for lost troops in no time. Join a good looking guild and work as hard as you can't to earn a promotion then work up to whatever you want.
