Ghost is right, if another player sent a scholar to land at the same time, the last scholar to land, gets the city.

Also, if you send 6 waves of scholars to one city, each one will lower then cities loyalty. Even if 4 are enough to conquer the city, the additional two will still be consumed by the city, each resetting the loyalty to 25. You wont lose scholarships but you will lose scholars as this is natural behavior when an attacking scholar reaches a city.

Conquered city lost?

In an attack I sent my last 2 waves of attack with scholars to capture a city. Unfortunately I conquered it in the first attack, so the 2nd wave, with just a scholar that arrived 30 seconds later, attacks my newly conquered city. However, the 2nd scholar lost and died. Now I don't seem to have control of the city. How does this happen? Do I call suppor to get the city flipped to me?
