Ok ill try to break down the numbers per 1000 units of lancers,*sents and guards

*lancers and sents use only 1 unit of farm space each but guard use up four.*

1 lancer has a defence strength of *25/50 per unit which x 1000 units is 25,000/50,000

1 Sentry have a defence stength of 65/25 per unit which x 1000 units is 65,000/25000*

Building them equallly in pairs takes up two farm units however a guard takes up four farm units per guard

A single guard has a defence strength of 140/110 so with 1000 guards it has a total defence of 140,000/110,000

Now you may think that 1000 guards is way better to have over 1000 sents and lancers. However when you divide the guards farm space by two and compare it with lancers and sents. The guards takes up 4x the farm space. So we will divide the guard by two(since you need a pair of lancer and sents to do the job of one guard) and we get 70,000/55,000 *

you do get a slight edge in defence with an all guard defence but you lose half of the farm space..a difference of. + 5000/5000

I hope i explained that correctly and you get the idea

To be an efective defence i like to build an equal amount of
sents an lancers and i dont usually attack with them but keep them home and fight with my zerks guards rams and ballistas instead*

What your theory's suggest does not take every aspect of the game into consideration. For example: a level 3 guard costs 3 times more than a level 3 zerk plus take twice as long to build for a similar attack rating. The problem lies in farm space whereas a guard uses up 4 times more farm space than a zerk. You can potentially build an attack force using zerks that will be 4 times more powerful than that of a guard attack force.

I Disagree

Okay, from an attackers point of view:

Am I going to cap the city full of 6000 zerks and 2500 knights, or the city with 6000 sentries and 2500 guardians? You'd be a fool to attack a defense city when an attack city is available. Just a waste of troops.

There are many possible city configurations out there, but none are invincible. But to say that defensive troops are useless is ridiculous.

(sorry for what I said earlier... But really, I would be useful to have some sort of incorrect-correct english translator at times)

And yes, guardians is a expensive, slow defense which don't do enough damage nor defence to be worth it. Some of each troop would be better, and a high wall level.

To my point of view,In my world which army can't be upgraded, guardian is neither the best for defending nor attacking. It seems like every aspect of the guardian are the best, but when you divide it by the human resources cost, all of it features are actually at medium level.

Defencive troops most definitely have there use or they wouldn't be there. But like Connguy said Guardians are by far the Superior troop. Quick to move and attack with, they kill awesome and they defend above any other offencive unit. But for those that only build Berserkers I love to find them as there asking to be conquered. And they can't do anything about it.

A few thousand defensive troops will go a lot further than you think. Having no defense means you're just a sitting duck when under attack.

Just have a *****ton of guardians, they're fast, have almost the best attack, and by far the best defense. And ballistas, they're as good as rams against walls, but they can target other buildings too (ie ironmine) and have a decent defense to boot

Goldnagger wrote:You may have forgotten the aspect of the wall defensive bonus. And I think it's a matter of how clever the player is and not the strenght of his offense. There is always someone who may use different tactics to take your cities from you, hence stronger than you. It's only a matter if you can call it or if thr benefits outweigh the risk.

My advice: Have a balance of offense and defense cities. You have to be able to withstand counter-attacks and protect your conquered cities.

I can't agree with you any more. especially these days, I've under massive attack.....I truely found out the value of the defensive troops, maybe you don't need lots of them, just a small amount of each city. when you were in a war, you would create substantial losses to your enemies,if you can use every drop of your defensive power agilely. such as mislead the enemy to attack a certain city, then accumulate all the relative small defensive troops to support that city plus the wall bonus, you can pay a little and win a lot.
