Haha well i have about 60 barbs atm, but im not to conserned about converting. I see that it is a valid strategy and i think i willl employ this in the next world I am in. But when you convert a bard to a lord city, then it will take up a scholar right? or it its a free conversion then its deff worth doing. Lastly when you convert, the city stays the same points right? just able to build all the buildings? or does it loose some of the progress?

I usually convert my barbs when they get max resourses, and lvl 25 Barracks,, Cause then they are above 15k and are horrible to lose the enemy without a scholar loss.

I'm not sure on name change but this is actually quite a big thing. Barbs are slow building, but most importantly they only produce like 90% resources that a normal city would. 1 scholar used per lord city you have, so it's up to you when the best time to convert is. But most likely you will want to convert them all at some point.

Im wondering if the above statement about turning barbs into normal cities is intended or it its a glitch of some kind? it seems somewhat unfair to just turn a bard into a free city by just supporting with a scholar. I know that most barbs are much weaker so you wouldn't want tom but i have a few barbs just as good as my main cities that I took of other players, or that jump up in points when players abandon or you take all their real cities. I guess it does take up the scholar because its gaining another real city right? also if you turn a barb into a real city can you rename it? im curious because im doing lord of the rings style cities atm and i name my real cities after real cities like minas tirith, and edoras etc, and my barbs after characters like Aragorn and Gandalf, and i would not want to spend gold to change the names, thought its not that important.

After you cap a barb you can convert it to a normal city by sending a scholar as support when it's influence is 100. Just something to keep in mind

In new worlds after trial by sword release you can cap barbs without scholars.
You have to lower their influence attacking them after cleaning.
I can't tell you more because i am still playing in old worlds

No. You need a scholar to capture a city. 1 per city. The scholar lowers the loyalty rate. With 1 scholar, it will take 4 to 5 hits to bring down the loyalty rate to zero. Once zero, the city is yours and your scholar is gone. You'll need to educate/produce a new one for the next city.
