can a lancer or a sentry kill a guard? maybe not, but a spike pit can. a mounted ballista could kill a lot. im not talking about units. im talking about TRAPS.

There is such thing as lancers and sentries. These guys are defensive killing machines and they seem to be what u are describing because they are So powerful but only on defense

it would be like addind more units, but purely for defense. of course you would need to have a limit, but that limit could be based on the level of the wall.

i see your point but what i meant by putting your guys behind the wall is basically making them not attack period. they wouldnt get the defensive bonus, but the attacking troops would have died off somewhat because of the traps.

The troops are already behind the wall. That's why the troops get a defense bonus.

If you are going to implement traps, simple damage boosts are no fun. Itd be as fun as increasing the max level. It definitely requires complementary features to be worth while.
1) Animated battles would showcase traps at work
2) Status effects such as slow down, deserters, Calvary becoming unmounted, etc.
3) City icons showcasing a preferred trap

you should have the option at the wall to keep your troops behind the wall when attacked, and be able to build traps like hidden spike pits, rolling logs, oil cauldrons and mounted ballista
