Here an idea: You can disband troops, any troops, at any time. When you disband them they are removed from your army. There is no reimbursement as the resources spent to train, arm, house and feed them has already been used. However, one can immediately begin training new troops.

The kicker is that disbanded troops don't just "disappear." They become mercenaries and join a nearby (chosen at random) barbarian city.

For some reason, arming the barbs appeals to me. :)

When i want to make space, i send unnecessary troops to nearby large barbs in small groups to their deaths. No resources there, but hey you can create different troops now.

Why should you be reimbursed for poor decisions?
To destroy troops send the troops you don't want against a strong opponent.

In some of my cities I have done a horrible job at my troop creation, there should be an option to say delete some or all troops. And when troops are deleted one would get back the resources they put into creating them in the 1st place.

Ex: have 1500 lancers would want to get rid of 500 lancers and build 500 berserkers in there place.
