Ben said "All worlds 120 and older are permanently open to the players who were around to play them. This was requested by the community, and the original team hard-coded it into the game. In the future, we can revisit those worlds and make decisions about whether or not to close them. It will be a discussion for the entire community, so look out for that."
Um, there is a good reason for that. There were no closing conditions built into the front end. Some people, myself included, invested money into those worlds and still play them. I would highly discourage any closing of said worlds (pre 120). It is on the server and sitting there. It really isn't costing much that I can see. There still are battles and resistance seen so please keep them open. If anything, larger worlds which could not be won quickly (i.e., academy in 3 days) brought lots of players - thus, more large worlds should be encouraged.
From an improvement perspective - I agree in that if I don't want to spend 50 bucks or have a week off straight up, I just can't compete anymore. A few worlds without gold (or limit it to 10 bucks worth, say), with slower playing conditions might bring back players. Also, we used to have competitions and there is an arena for it.... I loved those.
I wish the new owners best of luck and hope they will make improvements so more would come back and play.
