Thanks. The in-game doc was lacking, and I wasn't sure if the hit-before applied to ballistas too. It stated a difference between them in the ballista text in a way that made me believe the shared that trait.

Ballistas have a higher attack than rams. Ballistas have a higher infantry defense than rams. Each, by eight times as much. Ballistas, however, only cost 2 more population and 50 more gold. If your intent is to only take down a city's walls, is there any advantage to using rams over solely ballistas?
