Sorry for the double post, I don't know how to edit.

Also, if archers are used to bolster and make the wall stronger, why wouldn't we have a discussion about just increasing the wall level? Just some thoughts, if we can modify the above idea to change gameplay, I'm all for it.

I think the idea of ambushing and first strike are essentially the same mechanic. I don't think it matters if the ambush takes place outside of the city or at the time that forces meet. Tell me what you guys think about this option. Raise the maximum forge level to 25, once you reach level 25 you have the option to raze the city which takes 72 hours. This allows you to get rid of the cities you don't want, and prevents newly captured cities from being immediately destroyed.

The idea of archers defending/supporting the wall appeals to me. Perhaps, recruiting archers is essentially a direct counter to rams and ballistas.
