I've been trying to conquer a barbarian city 302,320 in R33 in world 98 and I've sent scholar waves several times. Twice it's happened to me that I get no report, my scholar and my troops are back at the ralley point

I just purchased two scholarships in my city Sonata, and then went to check on my other city. When I went back to see how many more scholarships i needed. It said I had none saved, but the resources I had spent on the scholarships were gone.

I have had my last two scholars disappear on me right after educating them, so i've never had the chance to use them to take another city. Why is this happening?
