Why are you taking barb cities in the first place? Target other players it gets you bigger and nicer cities

Wouldn't it be more beneficial if you sent 250 berserkers instead of 250 lancers with the first wave?

When I went to upgrade my iron mine after I hit upgrade and the resources it cost to upgrade went away but it doesn't show up in my building queue. There is no timer or anything on my city hall.
