Not so! You send too many thirsty men to a city they'll drink it dry.
Use lower carrying capacity troops for late clears and escorts, and don't send so many if you're worried about resources.
ie zerks and guardians on a per head basis

Are you in the beta test? Not that I know of. The reference to controlling barbarian cities and moving freely to and from those cities is in the standard text explaining how a truce works. Smog, just ask a friend with an iphone to set up a Personal Hotspot.
And yeah they could increase the map size, but a bit radical to try on 100 - upping the cities per block would be easier.

It should be 70,000 unless they make more changes to the city density. It's currently 28 cities to around 12 barbs in every potential 100 city block. Not 100% sure, but I think that's up on 25 which gave a 62,500 population Don't wait too long, as there's many players who would have entered earlier ...

The Units overview clearly shows sentries carry 20 per head, with lancers and knights only 15.
Use sentries at the start of the game and move to knights when you can for speed to get to outer barbs and those with walls
