Send a new scout. See what he has.

I always send a scout with my troops so I can get a full accounting after the battle. I like to know what went on so that I can make adjustments, if needed.

Not really. Send a scout to see what buildings exist in the city. It will have a lumberyard, quarry and mine so it will be producing resources just as your cities do. Empty it, wait a while, empty it again. This is commonly called farming.

You purchase gold with money (real life money). You can do so within the Store tab at the bottom. When you have gold you can use it to purchase items that can be used in the game. Things like speed ups for construction, instant spies, resources, etc.

Loyalty is only lowered if the attack is successful AND the scholar in the attack wave survives.

If the attack is successful but the scholar is killed (or no scholar was sent) then the city's loyalty is unaffected. If the attack is unsuccessful then the scholar with the attack wave will be killed.

Yes. You will lose more troops but you can still defeat an army and conquer it without destroying its wall.
