I agree with you that they should have left the arrow feature to scroll through cities but I want to try and help you out a bit. On the new update you don't HAVE to click the portal button to navigate through your cities. There is a sidebar feature similar to the FACEBOOK app if you have it. Next to...

you wouldnt be able to.... but the issue here is that after a world goes inactive and if you were able to join back up you would be able to just go and take over the whole world by yourself... not a fan of the idea

I thought that competitions were supposed to happen about a week after a world comes out. I'm in a few 80+ worlds and still no competitions...
