Questionable App Permissions

Google Play says there's now a Valor app update just waiting for me to download it. Cool!

Oh wait, it requires updated permissions? Hmmmm...

Why does Valor now require the ability to read my call log, my phone contacts, and send SMS messages on my behalf?

This is for an upcoming feature where you can refer your friends for rewards in Valor.

For example it will bring up your contact list and you can refer someone on it.
