Lore: Call for Player Input

Hey guys,

I’ve joined Playmesh fairly recently to help create lore for the world of Valor. You might know me already from the Morrow thread, since I’ve been writing his more recent posts.

As I’m filling out the world you all spend your time in, what I’m asking from you is this:

What do you want to know more about?

Send me your suggestions for new characters, historic battles, and troop personalities. What does a Sentry do in his spare time? What exactly is the Wheel of Fortune? And, let’s be real here, why does Aurora wear practically no clothes?

Or maybe you’ve found parts of the game that make you say, “There must be a story here, but I have no idea what it is.” Tell me about those places, and we can work on getting you stories that makes the whole experience of Valor more immersive and more epic.

Your friendly neighborhood lore-writer,

Lol, so I will not touch the aurora part because I'm sure you will no doubt receive tons and tons of suggestions for her story (some probably slightly disturbing no doubt), but scholars.... I can do that.

Scholar are, as the name says, learned ones. They are all fat, tubby, plump men because they sit around all day reading and eating. This is the reason they are sooooooooooooooo slow! It has been suggested that the guardians give them a ride on one of their horses, but no horse in the kingdoms can carry one of these oaffish men. They do however have great powers of persuasion and manipulation since they are able to turn an entire city against its owner. The only other problem after the fat and slow problem is they are also prone to heart attacks. If they are in a mighty battle and too many of their escorts are killed.....they tend to freak out and kill over.

Love the fat scholar image :D I would say that in terms of sticking them on horses, it's more the Scholar who's incapable, rather than the mount. There's lots of potential here: we could talk about the history of why Scholars grew to be so fat. Maybe it's part of the academic culture to believe large body mass creates a more imposing image. Maybe it's something about their diet: with all the gold spent on training one Scholar, they must be eating gourmet meals five times a day. I wonder if different lords have tried various methods of bringing Scholars to battle. Maybe some stuck them in big carts and tried to haul them to enemy cities. But that probably didn't work cause the Scholars squashed one another into jelly before they ever got there.

Great job, Bl1ndFury!! Keep the creativity coming!

I always envisioned fat scholars, like Spartan lancers, and Lord of the Rings sentries

Nice! With the lancers standing there with their spears, yelling "VAAALLLOOORRRR" as they face the oncoming cavalry charge and almost certain death. :D

Can you tell more about your picture for sentries, though? LOTR has so many characters...do you think of them as more like orcs? Or dwarves? Or the men at Helms Deep?

More like men at like the final battle. With the sword-to-sword combat. Close to Aragorn but not near that good.
