2 questions:
1. If I send scholar, can he die?
2. If I want to take a city to be under my control, have I to bring down the city walls first?
*My English is low, sorry xD..
About taking a city.

1. He sure can! And he probably will, if the city is well defended! Make sure you clear out defenses before sending your scholar, and also make sure your scholar is sent with a decent number of attacking troops. There presence will increase his likelihood of survival.
2. Walls are mainly a boost to troops defending a city. If there are no troops in the city, walls do not do much. It is not necessary for you to bring down the city walls before sending your scholar, but it may be necessary to bring them down, so that your troops will have an easier time overcoming the city's defensive troops.
Hope this answers your question! Feel free to post any more you come up with during your play!

Scholars come from the academy which can be built once you have a level 25 City Hall, 20 Forge, and 15 Barracks.
Once the academy is complete you need to purchase a scholarship.
After your first scholarship purchase you can recruit your first scholar!
Your second scholar will take 2 scholarships to make, your third will take 3, your fourth with take 4, and so on.
