Support a Town I want to Farm

There seems to be an abandoned town, with good resources... I don't have scholars to take over the town yet.

Can I defeat the forces in the town at the moment then leave troops to support the town, so that I can farm it later?

I want to leave troops in the city to stop other people from farming a city i have semi-conquered.

i.e. If I attack a town in which I have supported do I have to fight my own troops?

First off, you can only support cities belonging to your guild.

What if I support a barbarian city I want to farm?

What Tooltip stated is correct, you are not able to support barbarian cities.
