if i have guardians in my city, then i upgrade guardians, do they all upgrade or is it only ones i make after the upgrade?

To clarify, with the exception of support, all guardians always at all times have the same level as your research level.

Supporting guardians always at all times have the same level of research the city they are supporting has.

You can dynamically change your troops by revoking and reupgrading research.

So if level 1 guardians are sent to city with level 3 research they will have the defense score of the the level 3?
Is that also true of other troop types sending level 1 sentry to a city researched at level 3 they then defend at level 3.
Is the converse true sending level 3 to a level 1 researched city they only defend at the lower score?

Then you're in a 1 level research world. There are different research schemes in different worlds. Press the Info button on the Portal -> Worlds page to see the stats about your world.
