What is the use of Hiding place?

What's the use of a hiding place? can you use the resource that's being kept there when you need them?
It's just it seems useless for me.

Hiding place keeps your resources and doesn't allow them to be taken when your attacked. Only up to the amount your hiding place holds though. So say you can hold 1000 each resources in Hiding place. If you have 5000 resources and someone is attacking you. The max the can take is 4000. And they can never take your last 1000 resources. Also you can't destroy a hiding place with balistas. This is useful if it's a beginning of a world and a player is trying to farm you. Than you'd be able to save someone of your resources instead of him taking them all
