Ram Vs Ballista
Ram Vs Ballista
Ok, so I'm curious about the pros and cons both offensively and defensively when considering these two units. How do rams compare vs ballista defensively? From what I understand Rams are counted as infantry - is this true? Do ballista help defend against rams?
Rams are siege weapons designed to take out gates and walls. In Valor, Rams ONLY attack walls. 600-1000 Level 1 Rams can reduce a Level 25 Wall to zero, but must have a good escort. Ballista are used to attack ALL buildings and structures (except the Hiding Place) in a city. Ballasta do more damage, but cost more in resources and food to produce. Because they have a very low defensive capability, Rams and Ballista must be escorted and protected by significant numbers of combat troops.
I'm not quite sure if you misunderstood my thread, asplundh, but Im fully aware of what Rams and Ballista are and what they can do. My questions were from a strategic standpoint - do any of you even use ballista? Is there a clear advantage in general warfare to knock something other than a wall down?
When I attack a city it's to cap it, seems counterproductive to destroy a city you'll have control of soon...

Fhorar...i dont know how far you have progressed in the game because strategy changes as the world matures. On one world I play there are many players with over 100 cities each. Taking 3-4 cities from a 100 city player is insignificant, and it is impossible to accrue enough scholars to take many more. I currently have over 12,000 scholarships. It takes hundreds to build 1 scholar. So i use ballista to level enemy cities I dont have enough scholars to take. Taking down a wall is only a minor inconvenience eliminating a farm renders a city useless for awhile
