Battle Simulator Scenario

Postby TheBoyMort » Sun Jan 29, 2012 7:52 am

Would be grateful for opinions/insight on this problem please.

I have calculated 2 scenarios separately where the defender wins but when I combine the 2 together, the attacker wins fairly comfortably. (all troops at level 3)

Scenario 1
Attacker 1400 Zerks vs Defender 500 Guards. Defender wins with 1 Guard remaining.

Scenario 2
Attacker 636 Knights vs Defender 1400 Lancers. Defender wins with 2 Lancers remaining.

Scenario 3
Attacker 1400 Zerks + 636 Knights vs Defender 500 Guards + 1400 Lancers. Attacker wins with 250 Zerks and 114 Knights remaining.

Why does the Attacker win and why by such a margin?

My best guess would be default troop weaknesses. Maybe lancers are more naturally effective against guards than knights. I think it has everything to do with unknown troop strengths vs unknown troop weaknesses. At least mathematically that's the only way it makes sense coming from someone that just started their first world this month. Hope I helped.

Scenario 1 the guards over power the zercs, scenario 2 the lancers over power the knights, scenario 3 the zercs over power the lancers, the left over zercs and the knights over power the guards

Run a 4th scenario the zercs v the lancers see what that comes out as

My thanks for the replies and yes this is a good spot. The 1400 Berks crush the 1400 lancers winning by 700.

HOWEVER, does this is imply that the battle algorithm arbitrarily matches Zerks against Lancers and Knights against Guards rather than vice versa as per scenario 1&2?

Therefore does this also suggest some sort of programmed order of preference or matching mechanism??

Think about it... If you ever went to war as a troop and they gave you a gun and your partner a explosive charge who would try to take the enemy tank out? A gun isn't going to do much so you use the exsplosives so if a berserker is better at taking out a lancer then he's going for the lancer. Simple logic will answer most of your question.

I imagine Its there to ensure you don't build one troop type otherwise everyone would just train guards and the other troops become obsolete

All is logical. However, we, the players DO need mathimatical explain! There ought be something readable, a chart or schedule!

I've created an offensive/defensive calculation matrix, but the equations don't work right when troop types are combined on either side of the offense or defense (e.g., cavalry vs. infantry & cavalry). Still trying to suss out how the simulator works its magic.

...6 hours later, I thought I made a breakthrough, but the moment you throw in a different troop type, it goes wrong. Very frustrating.

Given the following stats (based on the Unit Overview page):

[/TABLE]

EQUIVALENTS

  • 400x lancers have a defense score of 10,000 points against infantry and 20,000 against cavalry.
  • 200x berserkers have an attack score of 10,000 points.
  • 201x berserkers have an attack score of 10,050 points.
  • 180x knights have an attack score of 19,800 points.
  • 183x knights have an attack score of 20,040 points.

SCENARIO #1
  • ATTACKER: 200x berserkers (10,000x attack points)
  • DEFENDER: 400x lancers (10,000x defense-against-infantry points)
  • RESULT: Defender wins: loses 399x lancers with 1x lancer surviving
SCENARIO #2

  • ATTACKER: 201x berserkers (10,050 attack points)
  • DEFENDER: 400x lancers (10,000x defense-against-infantry points)
  • RESULT: Attacker wins: loses 200x berserkers with 1x berserker surviving
SCENARIO #3

  • ATTACKER: 180x knights (19,800 attack points)
  • DEFENDER: 400x lancers (20,000x defense-against-cavalry points)
  • RESULT: Defender wins: loses 395x lancers with 5x lancers surviving
SCENARIO #4

  • ATTACKER: 182x knights (20,130 attack points)
  • DEFENDER: 400x lancers (20,000x defense-against-cavalry points)
  • RESULT: Attacker wins: loses 181x knights with 2x knights surviving
So far, so good... but when you combine berserkers and knights against the lancers, it all goes weird.

SCENARIO #5

  • ATTACKER: 101x berserkers (5,050 attack points, 50% of Scenario #2) + 92x knights (10,120 attack points, 50% of Scenario #4)
  • DEFENDER: 400x lancers (20,000x defense-against-cavalry points)
  • RESULT: Defender wins: loses 361x lancers with 39x lancers surviving --> (a 3,900% gain over Scenario #1 and a 780% gain over Scenario #3).
but if you send:

  • ATTACKER: 113x berserkers (5,600 attack points, 56% of Scenario #2) + 103x knights (11,330 attack points, 56% of Scenario #4)
  • DEFENDER: 400x lancers (20,000x defense-against-cavalry points)
  • RESULT: Attacker wins: loses 111x berserkers with 2x berserkers surviving & loses 101x knights with 2x knights surviving.
After a while, I just give up.
