Rams for defense

Postby Spartacurse » Fri Nov 09, 2012 7:13 am

I've read somewhere that rams can help in defense. But how does this work, other than being another trooptype to divide incoming damage over?

They meant using them as a part of the chaos strategy, to pretty much spam a city with 40 attacks...

Ballistas are supposed to be good to defend against rams. Rams in defense I haven't heard.

I can't go into detail because I don't know how true/how much effect it has. Hopefully some one will elaborate..?

Rams have a low (10) defense against infantry and a moderate (50) defense against mounted units. Ballista have moderately high (80) defense against infantry and a low moderate defense (40) against mounted units.

Both are better on defense than Zerx and Scouts, and very roughly compatible to the Lancer against pure infantry.

Is it true that having rams in a city makes it harder for attacker's rams to bring down the wall? I know rams attack first but do defensive rams also defend against offensive rams
before other units get involved?

I can't confirm this 100%, but I can say with certainty after much ram-on-ram action, I have noticed NO defensive effect rams have on the attacking rams during their first-strike.

I believe the defense value of the ram is simply added into the battle equation during infantry/horse stage of battle.

Rams do not have any siege specific defense attributes. They are not intended for use on defense... Simply taking down a wall :)

Hope this helps!
