Competition
One suggestion for a competition: make a city somewhere remote. Or maybe in a chaotic area. Make it powerful, maybe stronger than a city can possibly get. Fully defended. And the winner is the one who can hold it for a set duration. The city, even once conquered cannot be supported by your fellow guild mates. You must do it alone.

Modified king of the hill? Very cool idea.
I have a competition idea too. You could have a capture the flag like game where 2 guilds or players would challange each other. If they both accept they choose what city of theirs that they want to use as their "flag". Once that is done they try to capture eachother's city/flag then hold it for 24 hours. All Guild members could participate by supporting their "flag" and attacking their enemies "flag".
1) Most number of times 25% of guild is online at once
2) most number of resources given to a proven enemy
3) most number of tripwires
4) most number of cities with points less than 2000
5) most number of cities with only one troop building
6) longest duration of never being attacked
7) longest duration of a single city losing troops
8) most number of troops built from a single city
9) most number of buildings destroyed
10) most number of scholars in a single city

Some good ideas here. A quick note: In order for the competition to be viable, it needs to have the ability for the players to significantly distinguish themselves. If the band of likely outcomes is small (like say only up to 300 scholars in a specific city), then it will be too hard to create meaningful rankings between the players.
Keep posting ideas. The way we set up the system allows us to create competitions around just about anything we keep track of. We started off with the 4 for the bonanza because they were pretty easy to understand and get in to. I'm definitely open to things other than those four, particularly as worlds age.
