Moats would be cool, but you know what would be more cool? GOATS! You could have goats grazing in the fields and when your troops are going from one place to another, they would have a random goat herd delay. Afterall, there's a farm, right? So how about a goat herder who curses the troops when they trample through his goat fields and then he smacks a few of them with his big, curved goat staff.
