Losing troops for nothing

So i attack a city i have say alot of troops and they have none at all but i still lose 1-6 troops ino its not alot but it would be better if we dint lose them for no reson i meen how we lose them do they get lost on the way home.

Each city has a base defence value + u may have over looked a low level wall, tripped over a garden gnome, saw what beautiful women they had in their city compared to the dogs that were left at home !

Most barb cities have a Wall (okay, I haven't found one yet that didn't even have at least a Level 1 Wall). And while the barb city may not appear to have any troops, even peasants will defend their homes. Most I've ever lost is 8 Lancers, 8 Sentries, and 8 Berserkers. If you have the gold to spare, spend 25 gold for an Instant Spy to find out what it is you're attacking exactly.
