Experiance points for troops

How about giving troops experience points, when they were sent to battle and survived the fight?
An experienced army is way more powerful than troops which were never sent to battle.
Depending on the difficulty of the battle and the amount of lost troops , surviving troops should get experience points which gives them higher defensive or offensive skills and an advantage over freshly recruited troops.
