Attacking barb city containing 0 troops but take losses

I have repeatedly attack different barb cities. In the process, some have troops of course, and some don't. But I have been attacking barbs lately, barbs that have zero troops and i'm still taking 2-3 troop losses.. but I'm fighting nothing.. whats killing my troops?

A WALL. Learn that walls have defence points too and are capable of killing troops. Get rams or ballistae to break them down.

How can you tell if there is a wall if you don't have a scout!

Losing troops=wall in that city if it has no troops in it
