Capture a City without scholars?

Can you capture a city (i.e. a small barbarian city) simply by overwhelming the city with attack troops, rams, and ballistas but without the use of scholars?

No. Only attacks with scholars drop the loyalty of a city.

U may do whatever U wish to a town but you will always be unable to capture the city unless u have hit it with scholers and taken the loyalty down to 0 then the city will be yours. But be carful if u keep hitting a city with troops after troops ur moral will go down which u do not want.
