Starting Region on New World

My wife and I would like to try to start reasonably close together. I don't mean using a scholar to move, since that would leave me weeks behind in building. Is that our only choice?

If you both join at the same time and in the same region, you should stand a good chance of being in the same area

Well that's the issue. We tried that once and she ended up a long ways away , but we joined 15 mins apart
