Incorrect scholar count

My academy is telling me that I have 6 existing scholars while I only have three. I've checked every city I own to try to find the missing scholars, but they arn't anywhere (yes, I checked to see if they were supporting another city). This first started when I conquered a city whose scholars were abroad. I brought them home and the count was still off.

Does anyone have a solution? It's frustrating to have to buy over 60 scholarships just to make my 20th scholar. Thanks in advance!

I have a same problem. In my case, it happens after capturing a city with scholars evacuated to other town.
The city belong to other guild so I needed to give it us right away, so I did.
Somehow without taking scholars "came with" the city which I took and lost, scholar cout is still high up.
I won't be able to go on to capture any other city for a long long time if this issue isn't solved...

Having some sort of scholar finder or way to locate them better is being talked about internally.

For now if you are having an issue locating scholars, please contact our support team. They will be able to locate those scholars for you.
