Carpenders
I think a building similar to the academy should be able to recruit Carpenders to lessen the blow of rams and ballistas or there could be an anti ram/ballista unit that does extra damage to rams and ballistas

Ok so we all know how hard it is to take a city over if your guild is good at supporting.. In my world we have 20+ attacks on one of our members who ended up smack db in the middle of our biggest enemy. If he was allowed to fortify his wall it would never drop below 25 no matter how many rams and ballista they sent and he would have absolutely no chance of being taken over because with 25k guards in his city its hard enough to dent that as it is. I feel like strengthening builds is going to slow the game down even more than you think it might.

Spies and assassins. Even archers would be great. Scouts suck Because you can't find out there city info with them knowing. Spies could be planted in enemy cities and gather info like if they send any support or attacks from there you know what there sending. Take away instant spies and reveal troops, there crap.
